Final closure of The West Wing (BBC News)

The West Wing's unprecedented run of award wins came to an end at last week's Golden Globes, with drama series such as Lost, House and new political drama Commander-in-Chief - with Geena Davis as a female president - stealing its thunder.

"It's a different world from when the West Wing started in 1999," said Mr [William] Gallagher.

"Politics is getting very serious debate in the most unexpected dramas like Battlestar Galactica and we do have the more straightforward Commander-in-Chief."

[I liked the West Wing and seven seasons is a long run for modern television serials. However, it is still a far cry from Gunsmoke's 20 seasons or Bonanza's 14 seasons. The only show that I know is coming close to a run like that is The Simpsons. BK]

No problem, Lou. Thank you for clarifying the point!

Bobby, I know its kind of late to write about this, but at the time i wasnt saying that wrestling should be held to the same standard as Gunsmoke, my only point was that it made more episodes or whatnot than Gunsmoke, and apparently the simpsons at the time, despite being on (at the time) for 13 years.

Lou, I am probably shooting myself in the foot, but I don't believe wrestling or so-called reality shows should be held up to classic television dramas such as Gunsmoke. But I will concede the point.

"RAW celebrates original espisode No. 636 on Aug. 1, surpassing the previous record holder, Gunsmoke, which produced 635 episodes during its 20 year run on television."
