Rejection [The Ohio State University] (Discourse Chronicle)

Your credentials and application for admission to the English program for Autumn Quarter 2007 have been given careful consideration by the Graduate Studies Committee. I regret to inform you that the committee did not approve your application to the Graduate School.

[Three schools left: Iowa State, Purdue, and Bowling Green. OSU is one of my "dream" schools...BK]

Ted, I would appreciate help looking for some lecturer positions back home, especially while I wait for my last three schools to make a decision. Unfortunately, my current funds allow me to make ONE move (if necessary) while plotting another round of PhD applications next fall.

Hey bob. Sorry I didn't get a chance to call you back last night. I'm sorry to hear about the rejection. If you are interested in getting a teaching job up here in this neck of the woods, I can help you out with that. I've been scouring the sites, as I may be making a jump to a community college here in a little bit if things work out.
I'll try to get a hold of you soon.

Dennis, I considered the University of Florida both times I applied for PhD programs, but I hesitated because I fear an emphasis on comics may be undesirable once I become eligible for the job market. However, I will strongly consider applying next year since its emphasis is also on visual rhetoric, if my three remaining schools also reject my admission.

Meanwhile, my backup plans include applying for an Assistant Lecturer position here at Texas A&M, or applying for a job as a web designer back home. I am allowed a maximum of two years as an Assistant Lecturer.

Bobby, my undergrads are sharing their good and bad news. I wish you much luck.

Did you consider Florida State?
